Despite the diverse nature of Cathar Country, it has conserved an uncommon unity due to its history. It was on these lands, of the langue d'oc, between Gascony, the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean and the Massif Central that Catharism spead in the 12th century. At first fought on the terrain of the doctrine, this dualist Christianity, teated as a heresy, was at the origin of the crusade against the Albigensians.
